At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Micron today launched the microSDXC UHS-I Micron c200 1TB card - the world's largest microSD card, offering one terabyte (1TB) removable storage.
C200 is the World's First MicroSD Card
The c200 is the world's first microSD card on the market to incorporate QLC NAND technology (96-layer, four-level 3D cell). This provides cost-effective storage for video, images and games on mobile phones and other electronic devices - in this case, up to 40 hours of 4K HDR video, as well as thousands of 40MP + photos and mobile apps .
"Micron's technology leadership in NAND 3D CMOS technology and the 96-layer QLC layer has been instrumental in the development and launch of the world's first 1 TB microSD card," said Aravind Ramamoorthy, senior director of NAND solutions. for the Micron Embedded Division. "The new 1Tb c200 microSD card gives consumers the freedom to capture, share, store and enjoy more content while respecting their mobile-centric lifestyles."
The advent of QLC 3D NAND
"Technology is expected to increase the adoption of mainstream consumer storage," said Gregory Wong, president of Forward Insights. "Micron's 1 TB microSD card is an important step in the removable card storage market and will accelerate the transition to higher capacity storage for mobile and gaming devices."
The c200 offers performance speeds of up to 100 MB per second read and 95 MB per second write, compliant with UHS-I Speed Class 3 and Video Speed Class 30 specifications. The card will be widely available at second quarter 2019.
This follows a similar step just a month ago, when Lexar unveiled the first 1 TB SD card. Now that Micron reaches the same capacity in an even smaller format, we still remember the amazing progress of technology.
